Segbroek College skates (again!) for Local Heroes

The skating team of Segbroek College yet again raised funds for Local Heroes. Thanks to their enthusiasm and big efforts, led by JP Tensen, our foundation will be able to donate EUR 2.000 to one of our partner schools in Africa, where it will be put to very good use. Many thanks to the students, teachers, parents and other sponsors for this great result!

EUR 5.000 raised by European School The Hague

During the sports week of the European (elementary) School The Hague (ESH), 6-9 Feb 2023, a charity run led to the amazing total amount of EUR 5.000 raised for Local Heroes. The young pupils ran many, many laps which were sponsored by their generous families and friends. Local Heroes is very grateful for this really successful effort. Many thanks in particular to the ESH sports teacher (left on picture) and Marie Bischof (right), their Communications manager, for organizing this great event. The raised funds are donated to several causes: to Dorcas Cherop to support her in the next 3 years, to a part of the dormitory project in Kenya, and the remaining amount is reserved for a soon to be announced new project. Thank you ESH!

EUR 3.000+ raised for Local Heroes for farewell Principal at Rijnlands Lyceum

EUR 3.000+ raised for Local Heroes for farewell Principal at Rijnlands Lyceum

Local Heroes is very grateful that Jan Leuiken – Principal of the Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar until the end of 2022 – has chosen Local Heroes as the recipient of fundraising on the occasion of his farewell. Parents, staff, students and other donors have given generously, enabling Local Heroes to donate the funds to Poghoi Primary school in Kenya to complete the much needed girls’ dormitory.

We are very happy that funds have been raised to complete the girl’s dormitory at the St Philip’s primary school in Poghoi, Kenya. The dormitory is key in order to protect the girls at the school, so that they can safely sleep there instead of walking many miles every day or to avoid being subjected to certain practices such as FGM, early marriages or pregnancies. Also, this helps to promote education for girls.

New facilities Peota Primary School, Kenya

New class rooms are being built at this school in Peota thanks to fundraising by Dutch primary schools. The building project is fully managed locally, with the involvement and support of local hero Alexander Tidony and the ‘Samen Succes’ foundation. Peota Primary School offers room for 500 students and keeps growing. Some classes are even given outside due to lack of space. Therefore, the temporary buildings – made of clay and branches – need sustainable replacement (made of stone) and enlargement.
